THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS

And then, there were two. The next band to take the stage were none other than the All American Rejects. There wasn't a doubt in anybody's mind that they had the most support, based on the amount of screaming they received, mostly from girls, some from guys, none form me. Hype was reaching fever pitch as Tyson and the rest of the band who's name you do not know and are less important took the stage. Sadly tho, their set was a mighty big letdown. Maybe it was because the expectations but on AAR were so immensely high that Yelena Isinbayeva (pole vaulter) herself could not reach it, or maybe it was because the hot girl the once stood beside me was now gone (blame hormones), and replaced with a malay guy who jumped to the best like a retarded lunatic(people like that DO exist). To start things off, Tyson sported a lime green singlet. This would have been awesome had Tyson been as buff as me, but something about those scrawny, tattoo clad arms of his made me squeal (oink). For some reason, the stage lighting during their performance was also a tad bit off, excluding 'Gives You Hell' which was amazing. AAR also did not perform 'Move Along', a killer blow to their overall performance in my opinion. Finally, Tyson decided to climb 'that metal thing' next to the stage too, just as Martin Johnson from Boys Like Girls did. But, he did not climb as high, shaming 'that metal thing' next to the stage climbers everywhere. Oh, and Tyson isn't as hot as Martin Johnson. No, I am not gay, I just have an opinion.

You'll love
  • Gives You Hell
  • An Overall Solid Performance
  • The crowd which went absolutely bonkers
You'll hate
  • No 'Move Along'
  • AAR did not live up to their lofty expectations
  • Tyson sporting a lime green singlet. Ugh.

KASABIAN
Well then, it came to the penultimate performance of the evening. My watch said it was 10.20 p.m. Was I tired after 6 hours of standing/jumping/staring at the hot girl who once stood next to me? Not one bit. To my utter shock, loads of people started leaving after AAR had finished their set(and by shock , I mean totally expected). Us narrow minded Malaysian(By 'us' I mean you) probably did not know who Kasabian were, and probably did not understand Tom's (lead singer) opening statement, not because it was in english tho, no. Tom simply said " I'm still alive", cause he had contracted Swine Flu In Japan earlier in the week. For those who left, I say good day to you, because you missed one hell of a performance. I already said Raygun were the overall best performance of the evening, simply because they catered to everyones taste. But for all you rock heads out there (if you literally have a rock for a head, my condolences to you), Kasabian were undoubtedly the best. Two of their 5 set performance were in the top 3 performances of the evening. My pick was 'Underdog' and 'Clubfoot'. Either one of the two was better than the entire AAR performance. I ,sadly, missed their encore performance(yes, they were that good) because I had left my bag in a friend's car, one who left early. But Kasabian truly capped off an amazing concert with a stunning, mind boggling and just plain crazyhypersuperomgwow good performance. Hats off to you Kasabian, you rocked. Yes Theresa, you were right.

You'll love
  • Clubfoot and Underdog
  • A stunning rock-esque performance
  • The best performance of the evening (for rock-heads)
You'll hate
  • Can't think of anything, hold on
  • Nope, still nothing
  • Meh, I give up

It's been quite awhile since my last blog post, I know ya'll have missed me (and by ya'll, i mean Anne, my only reader) But it's about time i breathe some life into my almost dead blog. So, I thought i would sare with you my experience and thoughts about a concert i recently attended. Nope it wasn't big deal, it was a supercrazyhyperomghugebig deal, the biggest of its kind held by MTV in Asia, which saw Estranged, Boys Like Girls, Raygun, Pixie Lott, Hoobastank, the All American Rejects & Kasabian all coming down to the hell hole we know as Malaysia . It was aptly named, MTV World Stage Live 09. The cool thing about the whole affair was the fact that my trials was going to start 2 days later, but I was pretty well prepared. So, instead of telling you about how the whole day was and telling you how fun it was over and over and over again, about the 'fun' train ride over there, followed by the 'fun' trip from Midvalley to Sunway by car (the roads were was crazily jammed up btw) i thought i would review each performers performance.

ESTRANGED

Well, Estranged, according to MTV, are the darlings of the Malaysian rock scene. Now, I never doubted the fact that they were quite good by Malaysian standards, which is pretty low i might add (I love my country, I really do, I just choose not to show it) but going up against the likes of some proven bands like Hoobastank & AAR was a pretty daunting task. However, Estranged actually pulled it off, and exceeded my expectations. Maybe it was because no one, well mostly me, expected anything out of em. Maybe, it was because the girl I was standing next to was super hot, maybe. But their performance really warmed up the crowd for what was to come. They had this Hoobastank-esque thing going on, where the lead singer Rich loves the occasional lounderthantheaveragebear shriek. But still tho, the fact that they were a rock band, and Rich was wearing a hoodie really put me off. I just don't like hoodies kay. Plus, although they came close to matching their counterparts who performed later, in truth, they still got knocked out, but not a 1st round KO mind you, no, maybe a 5th round KO.....yes, sounds about right...

You'll love

  • The fact that they are quite good
  • The fact that they're Malaysian
  • Their music style works well
You'll hate
  • The fact that they're Malaysian
  • They sound like a mediocre Hoobastank impersonation
  • They pale in comparison with the other performers

BOYS LIKE GIRLS
So next up was Boys Like Girls, probably the 2nd most well known band among the many screaming fans, only behind AAR. Well, I fully expected an extremely good performance from these guys, and boy did I get it. Boys like Girls sang Love Drunk, Hero, Thunder & The Great Escape. Their performance truly had me wowed, with superb stage lighting adding the the atmosphere. When they sand thunder, it started raining, a mega coincidence. I enjoyed The Great Escape the most, partly due tot the fact that Martin climbed that rail thingy next to the stage and went up damn high, so much so that his voice started getting a lil bit shrill.... could the Boys Like Girls frontman have a fear of heights? I think so, and you heard it here first ;D Overall though, the performance was something you would expect out of a band of their stature, more, nothing less.

You'll love
  • It's Boys Like Girls, live !!!!
  • Awesome rhythm
  • Martin Johnson climbing that steel thing
You'll hate
  • They only sang 4 songs
  • Their showmanship
  • The end

RAYGUN

Well then, after a immensely satisfying performance from those Boys who like Girls, and lets face it, which guys don't (0_0) , it was time for a relatively unknown band, i say this because not only do they not have an album, but the also only have ONE released song in total, called Raygun to take the stage. Now, their video (you know, the one with, guys singing on top of cars) is mediocre to say the least, but boy can these guys entertain. Everything about their performance oozed class and energy. Their lead single, Just Because, the only song the public knew, was probably the 2nd best performance of the night. The thing abut Raygun that everyone enjoyed was the fact that their style catered to everyone's taste, that being a mighty big feat (not feet btw) that NO OTHER BAND could accomplish. Their guitarist meanwhile was really feeling it, rocking out harder than a stoned Jimi Hendrix and sweating more than Lee Yuan Zhe during PJ. All this is why Raygun probably were the best performance of the entire evening.
  • You'll love
  • They oozed class and energy
  • Their Guitarist
  • Catered to everyones taste
You'll hate
  • You don't know the lyrics to their songs
  • Not as rock-esque as Kasabian
  • -

PIXIE LOTT
Next up to the plate , was none other than the new Princess of Pop (lets hope this one doesn't shave herself bald and then bash up a car with an umbrella), Pixie Lott. Lets be honest, I was not looking forward to her performance at all, party because I I was waiting fer Hoobastank who were due to perform after her, and partly because the girl that was next to me was hotter than Pixie ( drools). But again, she blew me away, just as Estranged did earlier. She songs 3 songs, Boys & Girls, Something else, and her lead single, Mama Do. All 3 songs were kinda soothing, and had amazing melody, something i never expected out of her. And her accent was soooo cuteeee =D All in all, it was a really good performance from her, not being intimidated by all her male counterparts (she was the only female performer) .

You'll love
  • She's actually hot
  • Her absolutely adorable accent... =D
  • Something different compared to all the rock from the rest of the performers
You'll hate
  • She's not supercrazymegahyperomg hot
  • She used this granny outfit, whereas she uses this short shorts everywhere else
  • Her voice wasn't that great

HOOBASTANK
On to the band who I was eagerly anticipating, Hoobastank. Let's just say, when they arrived, everyone lost it ( and by everyone, I mean me). Hoobastank sang The Reason, which was done very well, really bringing this mellow feeling and making the whole crowd go emo (yes that was a good thing). Then, they said they would be singing a song everyone knew, which had a weird ass intro. As I tried to figure out what Hoobastank song it was, it turned out to be the Ghostbusters theme song! Indeed everyone knew the lyrics as they sang along, def bring the noise level up an ante. After saying it was a joke and had a good laugh, they got down to singing, the one, the only, Crawling in the Dark. Their performance was one of the highlights of the evening, and amplified the noise level in the Sunway Pool, as well as unintentionally condemning Estranged from above average to just average, as they put on a mighty fine display, even considering their mic died during The Reason(they had a spare =D). Still tho, they weren't THE BEST performance of the night
You'll love
  • Crawling in the Dark
  • Top notch vocals from Dougg
  • Ghostbuster !
You'll hate
  • Not the best overall performance of the night
  • The mic died ( Not their fault, but it died slightly ruin The Reason)
  • The rest of the band seemed anonymous

(Part 2 feat. AAR & Kasabian will be posted tomorrow)
